31 More Ways to be Witchy in October

Day 4

Fall scents are the best – all the yummy pumpkin spice, apple orchard, caramel, and chai tea scents are not only cozy and relaxing, but they each have magickal properties based on the main ingredients. As you prepare for a spell or other magickal work in your home, consider using scent as a tool.

You can use incense, fragrance oil or candles that are already scented, but you can also create a simmer pot on the stove. Start it before a spell to create a specific energy for a ritual or heat it up when you want to create a vibe in your home.

Use a small crockpot or saucepan and fill it ½ to ¾ full of water. Add your combination of spices, bring it to a boil, then turn it down to simmer. KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR SIMMERING POTPOURRI. MAKE SURE THE WATER DOESN’T EVAPORATE COMPLETELY AWAY.

Here are a couple of combinations:

  • Apple Pie: Use apple cider instead of water, add a cinnamon stick and some cloves.
  • Chai: Add a tea bag, some vanilla extract and chai spices like cardamom, star anise and cinnamon.
  • Cinnamon: Simply add some cinnamon sticks or a little cinnamon powder to the water.
  • Pumpkin spice: Add a little pumpkin spice from your cabinet.

You can create any number of simmering potpourris by simply adding a teaspoon or so of any herb that matches your magickal intent into the water.
