Can Gift Giving Be a Spell?
Have you ever thought of gift giving as a spell? I think it is. Read on to see why…
Today, I got a BEAUTIFUL gift in the mail from my dear friend, The Dark Faerie. (darkfaerie.com) We’ve been friends for many, many years and live five states apart. But we are always there for each other. After I commented on the beautiful dried flowers she uses in her photos, she said she’d send me some. (She’s just thoughtful like that.) When I opened the box today, not only were there photograph-worthy dried flowers, but she surprised me with some of her faerie and vegan art cards and one of her AMAZING meditation boxes. Look how beautifully, she puts these together, not to mention the gorgeous illustration on the front:
Aside from gushing about her incredible art and amazing boxes she puts together, I wanted to talk about the magick of gifting. Right now, especially in the United States, we are facing some tough times. People are sad, people are angry, and people don’t know what to do. But an act of kindness, a gift, I think is magick all in itself.
When you buy or make a gift for someone, you are putting intention into that gift. You are adding love to it, you are focusing on the person enjoying the gift, and as you mail it off, that is like your intention to the universe to manifest happiness for that person. You are in no way trying to control that person’s feelings, but you are wishing them happiness.
And when the person receives the gift, think of how much good energy is in the box. Yes, they will be happy that they got a gift, but when they open those box flaps, that beautiful, giving energy is going to surge right at them. That’s what happened to me today. I have been having a few “off” weeks. I think most people can understand that underlying feeling when the world just doesn’t seem right. Today, I was having an especially bad day, and I got that box from her. As soon as I opened it and saw how it was lovingly packaged and looked through the hand-picked dried flowers and discovered the surprises underneath, my whole attitude changed. It turned into a much better day. It gave me energy. Whether she intended to actually do a spell, it worked. I felt that loving energy that she sent. And then it made me want to write something about it to encourage others.
I want to encourage you to send out a little magickal, positive energy to those around you. It doesn’t have to be a big gift. Send a handmade card with words of love and encouragement. Send a text to someone with great intention. Make a phone call and imagine loving energy moving out across the radio waves that carry your voice. I think as witches we can all agree that when you send positive energy out, positive energy usually returns to you. Take a few minutes in your day today to try a little gift giving magick.
